PCG, the UK’s membership organisation for independent professionals, has backed a new initiative which aims to unite freelancers, contractors and independent professionals working anywhere in Europe through an online campaign.
Set up by Munich-based freelancer Joel Dullroy, the ‘Freelancers Movement’ calls for anyone working on their own account to show their support for this unique and vital way of working by signing up via the official campaign page.
Chris Bryce, CEO of PCG said of the scheme;
“Freelancing is growing right across Europe, just as it is in the UK. The number of people working in this way is up in every single EU nation.
“In countries like the Netherlands, the growth has been as high as 92% over the last ten years. Far from being a fad, this is now a sea change in the way people are choosing to approach the world of work.
“The more freelancers that sign up for the Freelancers Movement campaign, the more policy makers will be forced to listen and act to ensure the needs of independent professionals are catered for. That is why PCG is happy to back the campaign and encourage UK-based freelancers to sign up and show their support for independent working.
“The Freelancers Movement is yet more proof that even though freelancers are in business independently, they do not work in isolation.”
As one of the founding member organisations of the European Forum of Independent Professionals, PCG will be working hard to ensure the needs of freelancers are represented in Brussels in the lead up to the European elections.
As part of EFIP, PCG will be launching a new European Manifesto in Brussels on Wednesday 5th March. The manifesto will provide a roadmap for the next European Parliament to follow in order to fully support and enable this vital, unique and growing sector of the labour market.
Freelancers and other supportive organisations can sign up to back the Freelancers Movement via the official campaign launch page at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/eu-freelancers-movement
