Over four million Net subscribers in Portugal

The number of Internet subscribers in Portugal reached 4.4 million at the end of the second quarter 2002, a 48 percent increase on the same period last year.
According to the Portuguese telecoms regulator Anacom, around 43 percent of the Portuguese population now has Internet access, up from 29 percent in June 2001.
The number of broadband connections in Portugal grew 122 percent since the first quarter to reach 269,000.
According to Anacom, around 98 percent of broadband subscribers in the country have cable connections, while just 5,000 broadband users subscribe to ADSL service.
