The government's 58m funding earlier this year to help social workers improve training and development following the death of Baby P prompted leading online recruitment service Jobs4Medical.co.uk to launch a section on its medical website devoted to social workers. Since its launch just 8 months ago, its social work section has seen 52,375 hits.
ìSocial workers seem to be in the news for all the wrong reasons and the industry is now under more pressure than ever to ensure that organisations are employing the most qualified candidates to avoid the outcome of high profile neglect cases, such as Baby P,î commented Vicky Scott, Operations Manager, Jobs4Medical. ìAs a response to this, and to the impetus provided by central government, we realised the importance of having a dedicated resource for organisations to find competent and experienced social workers. The response has been tremendousî
Jobs4Medical designed the specialised section enabling vacancies to be categorised by department – for example adolescent social work – and geography. It will provide some of the UKís 76,000 qualified social workers with a daily updated resource to help them to find the right job in the right area and encourage a qualified pool of candidates for the position.
ìThe government had taken a lead on highlighting the need of having qualified and experienced social workers. This dramatic increase in activity on our site is, I believe, a really positive sign for the industry.î
