New website allows employees to rate their boss

Bosses should be on their best behaviour with the launch of a new website which allows workers to rate the companies they work for. Website WorkRewired.com allows employees to leave anonymous reviews and job seekers get inside information on what it's like to work at a company.

In May the controversial National Staff Dismissal Register went live allowing businesses to record allegations of fraud, theft and misconduct by workers. The system allows employers to record allegations and employee details including a photo for up to five years.

Greig Harper, Work Rewired founder, think it's important that there's a balance: We're spending a considerable part of our lives at work so it's important we find places we enjoy working and employers who can support and develop our career.

He says the idea for the site came about after job offers hadn't turned as expected: In some companies the day to day life was very different to what had been portrayed at the initial interview. That's where the idea for Work Rewired came from, a website that allows job seekers to get views from people already at the company.

Visitors to the site can rank companies they've worked at in a number of categories such as pay, opportunity to progress their career and friendliness of co-workers. Greig Harper says he doesn't expect an easy ride from bosses: I think some won't be happy with what they read but the initial reviews on the site are mainly positive. It's only fair that if you can read reviews of where to spend your five weeks holiday, you should be able to read reviews of where to work the other 47 weeks of the year.
