New employment law workshop helps organisations manage absence in accordance with the law

The average level of sickness absence continues to rise despite the fact most organisations have a written absence strategy

The average level of sickness absence continues to rise despite the fact most organisations have a written absence strategy. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has launched a new practical employment law workshop - aimed to help people management professionals improve attendance and manage sickness absence more effectively in a complicated legal environment.

This practical employment law workshop looks at the options, risks and tools surrounding absence management and suggests practical ways of measuring and investigating absence. The course will help organisations explore all the key issues, including sick pay, attendance incentives, , disability and data protection. It will also clarify statutory procedures, and provide useful documentation to facilitate compliance with the law.

Ben Willmott, CIPD Employee Relations adviser, says:
Our research shows an increase in the average level of sickness absence and this has become a key concern for employers as costs rise. Organisations should take action to manage absence more effectively by monitoring absence levels more closely and using the information to select a system to suit the individual working environment.

The workshop will take place at the following locations:
