This National Secretaryís Day (25th April), UK PAs are calling on their bosses and colleagues to improve morale and motivation by using two simple words ñ ëThank Youí, according to OfficeRecruit.com, the job board for PAs and office support staff.
Research commissioned by OfficeRecruit.com revealed that 37% of PAs feel that their efforts are completely overlooked on a day to day basis. While a further third (33%) work for enlightened bosses who do acknowledge their efforts, there is still no wider recognition within the company. In fact, when it comes to rewarding and recognising hard work across a company 40% of all PAs feel ignored. This is despite the 21st Century PA being a professional, multi-tasking troubleshooter who takes on many responsibilities traditionally associated with managerial roles. No longer just keepers of diaries and note takers, they lead an ëinvisibleí army of support staff and make up the backbone of any company.
For many PAs a simple thank you or recognition of efforts made on any given project would greatly improve inclusion and motivation. 58% believe morale and loyalty could be improved simply by being thanked for doing a good job.
ìIn order to attract and retain talent, companies need to recognise the role of a PA along with the fact that they are a valuable business asset whose efforts should not go unnoticed,î said Jim Ryan, managing director at OfficeRecruit.com.
ìAppreciation and motivation go hand in hand, for any role, at any level of an organisation. National Secretaries Day is a reminder to thank those employees who get us through the working week. Just think how different your day today would have been if they werenít around.î
National Secretaryís Day, created in 1952 to recognise the importance and value the position brings to a company, is this year on Wednesday 25th April 2007.
