Monster Worldwide, the parent company of Monster, the global online careers and recruitment resource, today announced the appointment of former Nike executive Tony Balfour as President of its Asia Pacific operations. Mr. Balfour comes to Monster from SEEK, Australia’s leading online recruitment company, where he served as Director of Marketing and Product. Prior to that, Tony Balfour served as General Manager of Nike’s operations in Australia and New Zealand, and held a number of other positions with Nike over a nearly ten-year period, including General Manager of Asia Pacific.
In the newly created position, Mr. Balfour will be responsible for the development and growth of Monster’s online recruitment services across the fast growing Asia Pacific region, including Monster’s existing operations in India, South Korea, China and elsewhere in the region. He will report to Steve Pogorzelski, Group President of International for Monster Worldwide, and will work closely with Monster’s Asia Pacific country leaders. Under Mr. Balfour’s leadership, Monster will continue to build awareness of its global brand, expand its worldwide job seeker audience, and deliver industry-leading online recruitment services to companies large and small across the Asia Pacific region. Monster also holds an important strategic investment in ChinaHR, adding to the Company’s growing presence in the region.

Mr. Balfour, 46, has more than fifteen years of successful brand-building leadership experience in high-growth industries on behalf of multi-national companies. Most recently, he was the Director of Marketing and Product for SEEK, a media and Internet company that is currently Australia’s largest online recruiting website. Mr. Balfour was responsible for all communications and product development plus website design for SEEK. Prior to joining SEEK in 2005, Mr. Balfour spent almost ten years with Nike, Inc., where he held general management positions with increasing sales and operational responsibilities for the company’s Asia Pacific operations. Earlier in his career, Mr. Balfour was responsible for the brand marketing and product portfolio, including new product development as Marketing Director for Lion Nathan, Australasia’s leading brewery, where he effectively helped grow the Company’s market share.

Mr. Balfour will be based in the Republic of China, and will assume his responsibilities at Monster on October 1, 2006.
Mr. Balfour holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics and Marketing from the University of Otago in New Zealand, and a Marketing Strategy Certificate from Stanford University in Palo Alto.
