The overall European results show that workers in Spain seem to be the most pessimistic in terms of their careers, with only 3% of the respondents believing they are currently in the right job, closely followed by France with only 6%. Hungary also only registered that 7% of workers polled felt they are in the right role, whilst many regions registered that only 10% felt they were in the right job (UK, Ireland, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.)
German workers were the most negative about future job opportunities with 31% of the respondents stating that they do not believe their perfect job exists. France followed closely behind with 27%, whilst 15% of workers polled in Belgium also felt their dream job was not available.
Spanish employees were the most hopeful about future job prospects, with 88% of workers polled believing that the right job role is available in the market, closely followed by Hungary, the Netherlands and the UK, with 80%, 77% and 76% respectively.
As the economy slows, people are becoming more introspective about their jobs and future career paths,î said Julian Acquari, at Monster UK. ìIn this poll over three quarters of UK workers are hopeful that their dream job exists. If they do get bad news about their current role, people should take the opportunity to look into pursuing their ideal job and how they can achieve it, whether through training courses, revamping their CVs or perfecting interview techniques.î
The latest Monster Employment Index Europe indicates that there are still thousands of jobs available. Online opportunities in the education and training sector throughout Europe climbed to their highest level on record in December, signalling demand for teachers and related educational jobs. For those considering a career change to this sector, now might be a good time to move.
