Monster asks if January is the hardest time of year to make resolutions?

Monster believes that many people have already broken their New Years promise to themselves to start looking for a new job

Monster believes that many people have already broken their New Years promise to themselves to start looking for a new job. This is supported by a 2008 newspaper survey which states that 25% of resolutions will be broken by the end of the first week of January and by the summer; only 46% of them will still be upheld.

With Monday 21st of January being described the most depressing day of the year, itís not surprising to see that many people are struggling to make positive steps towards changing and developing their careers.

Monster suggests using the extra day this leap year and make February 29th the day to plan those career resolutions. It recommends the following tips by Jenny Ungless, life coach for Monster UK& Ireland:

- Do your research ñ check to see if there is a gap in the job market for your planned vocation

- Set clear goals - pick a date for when you want to be in your new job and works towards it

- Take it one step at a time - set yourself small and measured weekly targets that all feed into your overall objective

- Write an action plan - this will clearly outline those smalls steps which you should be working towards to hit your deadline

- Put time in the diary - once you have completed your research, put aside times in your diary focused solely on completing tasks that will see your new job materialise and make sure nothing else distracts you during this time

- Be realistic - understand that this will take time and effort, but above all don't give up.
