Monster, the global online careers and recruitment resource and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc, and the Akron Beacon Journal today announced they have entered into a strategic alliance that will bring online and offline recruitment services to employers and job seekers across northeast Ohio.
Integral to this alliance will be the introduction of a co-branded job search and recruitment website that combines the strength of Monster’s brand recognition and product portfolio with the local expertise of Akron’s sole daily newspaper and its website, Ohio.com, which also covers the greater Cleveland market. The Akron Beacon Journal is read by more than 286,000 people during the week and 406,000 on Sunday(1); Ohio.com registered 334,000 unique visitors during the month of August 2006(2). When united, the newspaper’s strong emphasis on community news and business, along with Monster’s industry leadership, will enable a leading share of the local print and online audience.
This agreement further illustrates Monster’s commitment to accelerate our business by creating alliances that drive local market share, said Peter Newton, Senior Vice President and General Manager, SMB, Monster. Our focus remains singular - we will continue to leverage Monster’s brand strength to capitalize on, and then deploy, our breadth of industry-leading products and services via strategic distribution points and channels. These alliances will reinforce Monster’s local presence, enabling more personalization with our customers in key markets across the country. We welcome the opportunity to join forces with the Akron Beacon Journal to advance the online recruitment experience for the thousands of Ohioans it serves.
In mid-November, employers in the northeast Ohio area will gain access to robust recruitment solutions and services, as well as the industry’s leading resume database, which attracts approximately 40,000 new resumes each day. Local job seekers will enjoy a comprehensive experience that features an expansive inventory of employment opportunities, expert advice regarding a range of career-related topics, and an array of tools, including a resume builder and salary center, designed to enhance the search process.
Online recruitment ads are a rapidly growing segment of our business and we believe that our alliance with Monster in northeast Ohio will facilitate significant growth in this category, said Ed Moss, publisher, Akron Beacon Journal/Ohio.com. Combining the strength of Monster, the leading online careers and recruitment resource, with the local strength of the Akron Beacon Journal and Ohio.com will provide advertisers with unparalleled reach and results that meet their employment needs.
Monster recently announced its first such initiative in the country with Philadelphia Media Holdings, owner of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and philly.com. In September 2006, the co-branded website, www.philly.com/monster, registered a 25 percent increase in the number of page views recorded on philly.com’s career page during the same period in 2005(3). Additionally, there has been a 20 percent increase in Monster job listings in Philadelphia(4) since the alliance with Philadelphia Media Holdings began.
