Managing Change at Work ñ CIPD conference to help managers understand and manage the psychological impacts of change on the workforce

Managers increasingly need to understand aspects of the psychology of the workplace if they are to maximise performance, especially at a time when organisations are undergoing major change on a regular basis, according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Organisations are undergoing a major restructuring on average every 3 years, according to CIPD research. And yet the same research shows that 40% of such reorganisations fail.

The CIPD is running ëManaging Change at Workí a one day conference to help managers understand:

how people react in different situations

what motivates people to change

how psychological theory can be practically implemented in the workplace

Vanessa Robinson, Organisation and Resourcing Adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, said:

ìThe pace of reorganisations is accelerating, in both private and public sectors. In this culture and atmosphere, organisations are unlikely to succeed by simply trying to pick the best organisational structure ëoff the shelfí. Nor is it enough to hire in one or two change management experts who carry all the information and knowledge in their heads. The truly successful organisation is developing new capabilities to handle and absorb this kind of repeated change.

ìThe CIPDís ëManaging Change at Workí conference will help managers understand what role leaders play, how to get the right culture and what is the best way to motivate your employees. This understanding, grounded in workplace psychology, is key to delivering success in modern organisations.î
