Latest data from the Bank of Scotland London Labour Market Report indicated that permanent job placements in London rose at the fastest pace for over two years in December, while pay rates also rose for both permanent and temporary staff in the Capital.
For permanent staff demand was strongest for nursing/medical staff, while engineering and construction workers were most in demand for temporary work
The reportís unique ëBarometerí rose to 61.2 in December, from 61.0 in November, to signal a further strong improvement in labour market conditions in the capital.
Tim Crawford, Group Economist at Bank of Scotland, commented: ìDecemberís survey data painted a buoyant picture of labour market conditions in the capital to end 2006 with employment growth accelerating and salaries rising as firms look to attract quality candidates. The data also suggests that so far rising interest rates have not yet impacted businesses hiring intentions.î
