Lifelong Learning UK and ENTO have agreed a Memorandum of Understanding for future development work. The Understanding, which has just been signed, establishes the respective roles of the two organisations in taking forward the standards development agenda for the lifelong learning workforce.
LLUK, the Sector Skills council for the lifelong learning sector and ENTO, the body formerly responsible for setting standards for work-based training, are jointly committed to the continued development of the core teaching skills and competence of those who train others in the workplace. At present the Learning and Development National Occupational Standards and their related qualifications are nationally recognised as the appropriate benchmark for those delivering learning in the workplace.
LLUK has now assumed ownership of these standards but recognises the benefits to the sector of drawing on the expertise held by ENTO and will collaborate with ENTO to ensure the provision of any necessary support for the implementation of the standards within the national qualifications framework, until their replacement by a new suite of standards and awards in 2007.
LLUK is committed to the development of a set of generic standards, related qualifications and career pathways which ensure that individuals are able to use their accredited skills to extend their expertise across the different areas of teaching and training within the lifelong learning sector. It will also seek to ensure that those currently holding recognised qualifications have a clear route to further learning and career opportunities within the sector.
David Hunter, Chief Executive of LLUK commented:
ìLifelong Learning UK views the promotion of agreed standards for learning and development as critical to raising the skills base of workplace trainers, thereby ensuring that individuals in the workplace have access to high quality learning while at work. ENTO is well placed to support the implementation of the current standards and to continue to promote them to employers until their replacement. We believe that those requiring specific technical information, advice and guidance in relation to these standards should continue to access it from ENTO, which has been responsible for the standards and their development over many years.î
Tony Green, Managing Director of ENTO commented:
ìWe are delighted to be working with Lifelong Learning UK in the continued promotion of the Learning and Development National Occupational Standards and suite of qualifications. ENTO is also fully committed to the development of one coherent generic suite of standards, with related awards tailored for those who deliver learning development programmes in the variety of community, institutional and work-based contexts.î
