LinkedIn Corporation (NYSE: LNKD), the world's largest professional network on the Internet with over 400 million members worldwide has appointed John Herlihy as a Vice President of the company and Managing Director for the Europe, Middle East and Africa Region. In this role, Herlihy will lead LinkedIn’s business efforts in EMEA, overseeing the company’s strategic direction while continuing to drive business and member growth.
John joins LinkedIn having spent the last decade at Google, where he was VP of SMB Sales and Head of Google Ireland. In that time, John grew and led Google’s EMEA online sales and operations from 50 to over 2,500 talented people, working with customers across over 100 markets, from its Dublin headquarters. Prior to that John held several leadership positions at leading tech companies both in Europe and the United States. He is an active non-executive director of a number of private and public companies, primarily in finance, biotech, software and agri-food sectors.
Herlihy will take over from Ariel Eckstein who has been LinkedIn’s Managing Director in EMEA for the past four years. Eckstein recently took on a global leadership role at LinkedIn, heading up a worldwide team that looks after the needs of the company’s largest customers.
“We are thrilled to have John on board to lead our business in EMEA” said Mike Gamson, LinkedIn’s SVP of Global Solutions. “He brings to the company more than 20 years of management experience, driving sales growth at several leading companies. Under John's leadership, EMEA will continue to be a very important region for LinkedIn. At the same time we are very excited that Ariel took on a global role at LinkedIn. Ariel has helped the business grow from less than 100 to over 1500 employees and has established us as a leading company that counts the majority of FTSE 100, CAC 40 and DAX 30 as clients. EMEA now has more members than the United States and the region accounts for more than 25% of our revenue.’’
"I relish the opportunity to lead LinkedIn’s business in the region and I have always admired the company’s ethos’’, said John Herlihy. “LinkedIn’s vision to create economic opportunity for every member of the workforce is a powerful one and resonates with those looking to start, foster and advance their careers. I am looking forward to working with our team to realise this vision and to further strengthen LinkedIn’s presence across EMEA, from both a member and business perspective.”
