Less Talk, More Action: Thousands of Adecco Group employees will hit the streets to help get young people working

Adecco Group launches its Way to WorkTM initiative, a worldwide day of action to help get the global workforce working

On Tuesday, April 30th 2013, thousands of Adecco Group employees in more than 50 countries worldwide will be out in the streets, at schools and in universities offering career advice, guidance and free training workshops to help youngsters in their search for employment.

There has never been a more pressing need to help the younger generations gain employment. Youth unemployment figures show the dramatic lack of jobs throughout Europe, in the US and some parts of Asia Pacific. Recent figures for Europe are critically high at 23.5 - 21.1% for the UK - with peaks of 55.7% in Spain and 58.4% in Greece. Over 5.6 million people under the age of 25 are jobless in Europe. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimates, over 75 million young people worldwide are currently looking for work.

The Adecco Way to Work™ program stretches around the globe: in the UK over 1,000 Adecco employees will be on the streets in 132 towns and cities and visiting a number of schools and universities. In France, Adecco employees will be on the streets in 33 cities; in Spain and Greece Adecco will be in over 150 public places and in Italy in over 50. In Germany, actions are planned in 40 locations, and in North America major events will take place in Detroit and Los Angeles. In Australia, Adecco will reach out to young people in 50 locations and dozens more actions are planned throughout Asia and Latin America. In Mexico, Argentina and Colombia, but also in Singapore, South Korea, Thailand,

Adecco Group UK & Ireland CEO, Peter Searle, commented:

“The recent ONS statistics were a stark reminder that we simply must do more to get our young people into the workforce, and ensure they are sufficiently skilled to stay there. Talking about it achieves nothing. We must act if we are to create change. We know how important it is to ensure our young people have the right skills and training to be able to secure meaningful employment. But not everyone can access the right help when they need it most. This global action, as witnessed on the streets across Britain, is just the start of the Adecco Way to Work™ programme, where we are demonstrating our commitment to helping get Britain working again.”

This initiative will mark the launch of the Adecco Way to Work™ programme which offers job searching tips through www.adeccowaytowork.com. The website is a comprehensive resource for young job seekers including guidance on job applications, CV writing, preparing for interviews and much more.
