The Computer People/ Mandis Index (CPMi) is a quarterly report examining the levels of job creation across the UK technology and telecoms sectors. The data provided enables quarterly and annual analysis of the health of the UK IT sectors.
Together with Computer People, Mandis Business Intelligence conducts monthly research into the employment intentions of the UK high-tech sector identifying companies that are undergoing dynamically positive change involving financial growth, expansion, relocation, acquisitions or launching new products and services. Analysis of the Q2 results has highlighted the following trends:
Telecoms ñ Almost a four-fold increase on Q1 figures saw 3,646 jobs created in this sector alone during Q2. June was a particularly strong month with over 2,700 jobs created in this month alone
Technology ñ Whilst there has still been positive job creation, with 3,600 jobs created within the sector, this figure is slightly down on Q1 results where 3927 jobs were created
Adam Fletcher, managing director, Computer People said: ìWe are seeing some terrific growth in candidate demand across the two main IT sectors in 2006. These levels of job creation confirm that the slow start to the year, which was felt across all areas of the market, was simply a blip. The UK IT market is well on its way back up. Despite being slightly down on 2005 figures, 2006 looks to be a far more stable and steady market, which is good news for the sector as a wholeî
Fletcher continued, ìAt this rate, it is possible that we may see demand outstripping supply in some of the more specialist areas by the end of the year such as C# and .NET development skills. To ensure that the UK remains as a strong supplier of IT specialists, it is imperative that government and industry constantly seek to attract and up-skill a growing workforce to match these opportunities.î
The Computer People / Mandis Index (CPMi) is the ongoing quarterly tracker of UK jobs created across the high-tech sector in the UK. This ëliveí data is gathered via research during each month into the employment intentions of a representative sample of UK organisations, providing a key, up-to-date indicator on economic performance and confidence across this sector. The monthly study is conducted by Mandis Business Intelligence and sponsored by Computer People, the leading recruiter for the IT sector.
