An innovative online job site business which matches employers and potential employees has been shortlisted for a prestigious Catalyst Award. ëLifeWorklife.co.ukí is an online job matching community for people looking for fulfilling flexible careers and for companies looking for a skilled, motivated workforce.

The Catalyst Awards were announced last July when Prime Minister Gordon Brown started the Council on Social Action. He says ìI believe it is time to celebrate the best in Britain, and ñ by celebrating it and enhancing it and by encouraging many more of us to participate in it ñ we can build the good society where each of us asks what we can give and all of us can make a difference.î Their aim is to recognise everyday heroes who use technology to make a positive impact on the world around them.

The Catalyst Awards Web site is at www.ukcatalystawards.com you will find LifeWorklife by clicking on the short list page. Voting closes lunchtime on the 23rd of July (thatís Wednesday). Comments and votes can be cast but users are only allowed one vote per person.

Lifeworklife is a Website designed to keep both employers and individuals in touch with each other without commitment until they are ready to make one. The users of this site may be employers with a requirement for temporary staff at short notice or seasonal or may be employees seeking additional work, a potential change of job or home working tasks that employers send to them.

The benefits to the employer are that they can have a 'reserve' workforce for times when they are needed with an option of hiring somebody tried and tested without obligations. The benefit to employees is that they can test the market for a change of jobs or even a change of careers. Other employees may be re-entering the workplace for whatever reason or merely seeking work that is available to them when they feel they want to do something.

Examples of employers would be companies or businesses who have a member of staff of sick, perhaps have a menial task that they would like undertaken or simply require somebody for a seasonal upturn in business to get them through. Examples of employees would be somebody who would like something extra like an occasional bar job, a mother who cannot commit to a full or part time job but would still like something on an occasional basis.

LifeWorklife says ìA pro-active career involves making the most of the time you have, the skills you want to share, and the place you want to be. We hope that people will use the site to find second jobs - instead of loans - to supplement their incomes, join the working population where that was difficult before and to develop themselves by volunteering. We know that companies using LifeWorklife.co.uk value their workforce, understand the benefits of diversity and care about their peopleís work life balance.î

ìMinimum legislative requirements have raised the bar in terms of minimum standards of flexibility, just as the minimum wage has raised the bar in terms of lower end salaries - flexible working is as important to employees as the value of their ëpackageí.î Says Paul Sellars policy officer at the TUC ìif organisations want to be employers of choice they need to run a little harder.î
