Ever wondered whether there was a social media equivalent of keeping your ear to the ground for your next big career move?
A small team of developers at the London Google Campus think they have cracked this dilemma by launching a fully integrated Twitter job board, which they have called CareerFollow.
Employers ranging from Google, KPMG, to Starbucks and even leading city restaurants are increasingly turning to the more informal setting provided by Twitter, to help promote their job openings and connect with top talent. CareerFollow brings together thousands of employer job tweets under one roof. There are over 600 job streams to choose from, with thousands of jobs ranging from banking and receptionist jobs to telesales and journalism.
Co-founder, Joe O Donovan says: "CareerFollow works in a way that's familiar to anyone who has used a traditional job board such as Jobsite or Monster, so it's easy to navigate and quickly zone in on employers that are tweeting jobs relevant to the candidate's skillset. The big difference between us and traditional job boards is the speed at which you can spot a great career opportunity and pounce on it, simply by tweeting the employer. In fact more often than not we are finding that job opportunities are tweeted long before they hit the main stream job boards. So as a candidate, CareerFollow gives you a huge advantage."
CareerFollow also provides employers with an exciting and simple-to-use social recruitment tool to help publicise their job opportunities and has several advantages over it's traditional job board peers. These include the speed at which simple job messages can be dispersed to the system, with 140 character job tweets, which is perfect for employers that need a quick turn around in their hiring cycle. By using a corporate Twitter account to tweet, it also acts as a great branding exercise to show that your organisation is growing and expanding. And of course, it allows quick two way communication, which can make the initial connection between employers and candidates much more seamless.
CareerFollow is planning to launch an iPhone and Android app over the coming months. So, with the ability to follow your favorite employers and connect in seconds, on your lunch break, or even on your commute home, the only thing that¹s left to do is find a new home for your office mug.
