Calls made to Employee Advisory Resourceís (EAR) employee assistance helpline in July 2008 show that the credit crunch is really making its mark, according to Alan King, Managing Director of EAR. According to EAR ñ one of the UKís leading providers of Employee Assistance Programmes ñ the number of people seeking advice or support about employment contract termination has risen by 55% compared to last year. The number of employees phoning with emotional health problems, which include issues such as job anxiety, stress and family issues, has increased by 27% compared to the same period (July 2007) last year.
Alan King, Managing Director, Employee Advisory Resource, says: ìThe role of employers to support their people in these testing economic times is greater than ever. Steps need to be taken to ensure employers have appropriate resources and the solutions in place to enable their staff to tackle personal and work-related concerns before they affect work performance in any significant way.î

Financial concerns: requests for assistance with financial worries and concerns ñ such as debt and mortgage queries ñ have increased by 29% in the last month (compared with calls received in June 2008) and by 7% compared with the same period (July 2007) last year
Tenancy concerns: tenancy-related calls have also seen a marked increase, with 48% more employees requesting assistance on this issue compared with calls received in June 2008 and a similar rise (46%) can be seen compared with calls received in 2007 (compared with July 2007).
Legal concerns: calls relating to legal issues have grown by 24% since June 2008 and by 21% since the same period in 2007
Civil litigation: calls relating to civil litigation have increased by 66% when compared with calls received in July 2007 and by 8% compared with calls received on this issue in June 2008
