Eurociett and UNI-Europa - the European social partners for the temporary agency work sector - have reached agreement on a joint declaration on agency work.
This is especially timely within the context of a likely outcome to the EU Agency Workers Directive.
The REC was part of the Eurociett negotiation team and was able to ensure that there was an agreement from the Trade Unions regarding national-level flexibility in terms of how the Directive is implemented.
Commenting on some of the positive messages within the joint-declaration, REC Director of External Relations, Tom Hadley says: ìThe agreement between Eurociett and Uni-Europa recognises the positive role that temporary agency work can play in the labour market today and underlines the need to review current restrictions imposed on temporary agency work across the EU.
ìCrucially, in light of recent developments in the UK, the joint-declaration also recognises that national level solutions ñ such as including a qualifying period before equal treatment provisions apply - should be possible in order to reflect different labour markets and temp models within the EUî.
Welcoming the publications of the joint-declaration by Eurociett and UNI-Europa, Annemarie Muntz, Eurociett President, says: ìThe agreement reached is the fruit of a constructive dialogue between responsible social partners of a significant and developing industry.
ìWe hope that it will help to push the current process forward. We are now calling on the EU institutions to take full account of the content of the joint declaration, when discussing the draft Temporary Agency Work Directive, in order to reach an agreement as soon as possible. Such an agreement will bolster the full potential temporary agency work can provide to a more efficient European labour market.î
