A North West company has been honoured at a ceremony recognising the UK’s most “disruptive” businesses – early-stage firms triggering change in their respective markets.

JobsTheWord, led by a trio of professionals with combined experience in recruitment, technology and investment, has been chosen as one of Everline Future 50s, for their use of big data to shake up the jobs market and provide a better way to generate results for both employers and candidates looking for a job match.

The company, which is based in Knowsley, was founded in 2011 by Will Crandle, Lee Harding and Keith Jones, an experienced entrepreneur and angel investor, and in 2013, was awarded an investment of £525,000 from The North West Fund for Venture Capital, managed by Enterprise Ventures.

The big data system, in keeping with the approach to personalisation, was named after Will Crandle's daughter Billie. It was developed from scratch using freely available information from across the web and comprises bespoke algorithms to discover the ideal active and passive applicants for employers.

Commenting on their success, Will Crandle, said:
“We are thrilled to have been recognised as disruptors of the recruitment industry, but we’re not standing still and excited about plans for the future.

“Our use of Big Data has opened up so many opportunities never seen before in the recruitment industry, which we will continue to leverage on behalf of our clients.”

The members of this year’s list, now in its fourth year, were announced at a ceremony staged by Everline, part of SME lender Orange Money, at LSO St Luke’s in London, in conjunction with Real Business.

Russell Gould, managing director at Everline, said:

“The calibre of businesses on this year’s list is testament to the wealth of innovation and creativity in the UK at the moment.

“SMEs are the bedrock of the economy, so it is great to see so many celebrated and recognised for being disruptive in their designated fields. I hope this year’s winners inspire a new wave of businesses and I look forward to watching their developments in the months and years ahead.”

Amy Carroll, group editor at Real Business, said:

“For the fourth year running we have identified 50 exciting and disruptive businesses that are all breaking new ground and transforming the sectors within which they operate.”
