Jobsite and The Big Green Switch form partnership

Jobsite and The Big Green Switch partner to launch new dedicated green jobs channel - Big Green Jobs

Jobsite.co.uk and The Big Green Switch today announce the launch of a new green jobs channel dedicated entirely to environmentally-friendly jobs. Big Green Jobs, found at www.biggreenswitch.co.uk/jobs combines Jobsiteís award winning job search technology with The Big Green Switchís expertise and advice on moving to a greener lifestyle.

Green careers are set to grow substantially over the next decade, with research from the Department of Trade and Industry predicting 35,000 people will be working in environmentally-friendly industries by 2020. Big Green Jobs (www.biggreenswitch.co.uk/jobs) meets the needs of the increasing number of environmentally-conscious jobseekers, providing access to an exciting mix of career opportunities in the UKís emerging green industries, as well as traditional companies looking to go greener.

For recruiters, the new jobs channel brings together a growing audience interested in a greener lifestyle or working for greener companies, with those brands also seeking to differentiate themselves through their green credentials. The new site includes job opportunities with some of the UKís leading brands, as well as newer companies, in roles as diversified as environmental architect, energy manager or environmental marketer. And, with salary ranges scaling from admin roles at 18K to senior management roles at 100k, candidates wonít need to sacrifice income to go green.

Big Green Jobs has come just at the right time for the recruitment industry, with Britainís younger workforce ready to go green. Research conducted by Jobsite.co.uk has revealed that one in ten workers aged 18-24 admit they are ashamed of their job as their employer is not green enough. However, 80 per cent of younger British employees want to change this and are actively taking practical steps to make their workplace more environmentally friendly. For example, 49 per cent are now switching off appliances, 40 per cent are recycling and 11 per cent are using more energy efficient light bulbs.

Felix Wetzel, Jobsiteís Group Marketing Director, comments: ìGreen careers is an area thatís set to grow significantly. With an estimated 35,000 people predicted to be working in environmentally-friendly industries by 2020, green jobs may be to the 2010s what IT was to the 1990s. Recruiters need to tap into this social change if they are to continue to pull in candidates, and companies, and deliver first rate results.î

Steve Allen, Big Green Switch project manager, comments: Research carried out by the Big Green Switch found that 18 per cent of us think that businesses can have a central role to play in reducing climate change. But you don't have to work in a career linked to the environment to have a positive impact. Every little step - be it turning off your monitor when you go home or not printing emails - has its impact, and the cumulative effect can be enormous. The Big Green Switch is packed with suggestions for simple, painless ways to make your workplace more environmentally friendly, and now the jobs page will let people make even greater positive changes to their lives.
