Jobseekers are 'Internet savvy'

Jobseekers that search and apply for employment opportunities via the web make up 43 per cent of job-hunters, a survey by Taleo has revealed.

A further 38 per cent of respondents were found to be 'traditional' jobseekers, using recruitment agencies and personal contacts, while the remaining 19 per cent prefer to apply for jobs through the post.

Senior vice president for Taleo Neil Hudspith remarked that companies must respond to this trend.

Online search and application techniques are now the most prevalent methods with both active and passive candidates, which suggests that candidates are proactively taking charge of their search for employment, he commented.

Furthermore, many people are signing up to business networking sites, he said.

ClickAJob chief executive Yngve Traberg makes the point that both job-seekers and employers use the Internet for its huge instant choice.

It's about matching people with jobs and getting it right, he says. The wider both employers and job-seekers can choose, the better their chances of finding exactly the right match.

To do that through traditional means such as newspaper is not only time- consuming, it very often only considers a fraction of all the options, he continues.

It's not unlike the options you need to look at buying clothes - colour, style, fit, etc. And as any employer or job-seeker will tell you, one size NEVER fits all, he concludes.
