Job searches surge in driving, retail and healthcare industries, as UK workers react to employer demand

According to data from CV-Library, the UK’s leading independent job board, the amount of people searching for driving, retail and healthcare jobs has increased significantly over the past seven days, as job seekers react to increased demand for key workers.

The data looks at the amount of job searches made on the CV-Library site between 16th-22nd March and compares this with figures from the week of 9th-15th March. According to the data, job searches arup by 16.7% in the past week alone, with key industries witnessing even bigger hikes:

  • Warehouse – up 132%
  • Retail – 127.8%
  • Driving – up 76.2%
  • Administration – up 60.2%
  • Healthcare – up 19.5%

Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library comments:

"The sad reality is that many companies have had to let employees go during these challenging times and this means more people are actively looking for jobs. We’re also starting to see a similar pattern with CV registrations and will continue to monitor this in the coming weeks.

We're going above and beyond to support businesses that are recruitingand our data should provide some respite to the thousands of organisations that are struggling to hirright now; particularly within these in-demand industries."

Alongside this, when looking at job searches for specific roles, CV-Library's data reveals the following increases:

  • Delivery Driver - up 221.9%
  • Electrician - up 118%
  • Driver – up 98.2%
  • Labourer – up 63%
  • Project Manager – up 33.2%
  • Site Manager – up 27.2%
  • Cleaner – up 13.7%
  • Retail Assistant – up 13.3%
  • Administrator – up 7.6%
  • Warehouse Operative – up 6.9%

Biggins continues:

“Job seekers are reacting to employer demand and we’re pleased that we’re helping companies to place workers into key roles, quickly and effectively. However, we do have to think realistically and consider how long this will last. With so much uncertainty, and following the Prime Minister's further update last night, the recruitment industry can be a part of the solution, but only with the support and investment of the government.”
