Asking the IT community to put itís money where itís mouse is, IT recruiter Computer People and network service and solutions provider Netshield are working in partnership to run the charity auction on May 29th, with the proceeds helping St Basils to provide much needed accommodation and support to homeless people aged between 16 and 25.
The auction, to be held at Birminghamís cosmopolitan ëVaultsí restaurant, will begin at 4pm and run until around 8pm, with tickets available at 5 per person. Prizes for the auction have been donated by a number of sponsors from the IT world, and range from a fully functional poker table to a golden bond, guaranteed entry ticket to the London Marathon, and even the chance to report for the Birmingham Post for a day.
Computer Peopleís Matt Collingwood and Netshieldís Nigel Ward, joint organisers of the event, say that the auction will go a long way to helping the St Basils cause: ìJust 10 is enough to feed and provide new clothing for a young person at St Basils, so weíre hoping to see a great show of generosity from our guests on May 29th,î says Matt. ìItís going to be a lot of fun, and the proceeds will go a long way to making a lot of young homeless peopleís lives a lot better as well. This is a great chance for the local IT network to get behind a fantastically worthwhile causeî, continues Nigel.
These sentiments are shared by Blair Kesseler, head of St Basils and host of the event: ìEvery year, St Basils has to raise 500,000 of sponsorship funding just to continue our work. Our commercial partnerships with organisations like Netshield and Computer People are absolutely vital to that, and everyone involved in this event is doing something great to help someone theyíre likely to never meet, though they may just pass them on the streets of their city.î
