56% of HR professionals have purchased web monitoring software to help combat employee abuse of the internet. This is according to the latest survey from Softworld HR & Payroll (2 ñ 3 March 2005, Olympia, London). A further 22% are considering the purchase of such monitoring software.
Interestingly however, concern about internet abuse does not seem to have stemmed organisationsí adoption of mobile working strategies. 44% of respondents have implemented such a strategy and 22% are considering their organisationís response to mobile working. 66% have taken steps towards implementing polices designed to combat stress in the workplace. These include mobile and flexible working policies.
Liz Wood, Softworld Portfolio Director, said of the research IT security and employee productivity are the major concerns when considering internet use. The Web is now an integral part of most business environments so HR professionals are left with a balancing act: overseeing employees on the one hand while offering workforces the freedom to work in a way that increases their productivity and commitment on the other. This research suggests that many professionals are looking at these issues and are hitting that balance.
The survey, conducted last month on past visitors to the Softworld HR & Payroll events, looked at a number of the issues that are important to HR today. The bi-annual event, Europeís leading software event for the HR and payroll community, will use the findings to develop an up to date picture of HR practitionersí issues and concerns. In particular, looking at how these issues relate to or could be addressed through technology and its implementation.
Softworld comprises an exhibition of over 50 leading exhibitors, such as Kronos, Computers in Personnel Ltd, Frontier, Grampian Software Ltd, Intellect, KPMG, Northgate HR, Ceridian Centrefile, Sage and KCS.
A free educational programme forms a crucial part of the event. Sessions aim to help professionals examine existing systems and processes; consider new strategic frameworks, and develop new business models that will allow them to successfully manage their business.
This springís event is again co-located with Softworld Accounting & Finance and Business Performance & Project Management. Visitor badges will allow free cross-over between all three events.
