Ground-breaking new programme announced for 21st Century Leaders

At Sad Business School, University of Oxford

Sad Business School at the University of Oxford invites you to join the inaugural cohort of leaders on a new ground-breaking programme designed to support leaders in developing the mindset, the confidence and the skills to create businesses and institutions that will flourish in the 21st century.

There have been seismic shifts in what employees, customers and wider stakeholders want from business and government in recent years and this trend is likely to continue. Ultimately, these shifts present a challenge for leaders and it is clear that new models of leadership are required to meet these demands. This challenge, however, is not easy. People are quick to judge leaders and identify gaps between espoused and real values. Delivering robust performance in the short-term, whilst positioning businesses positively for delivering sustainable results in the future, is a difficult balancing act. A key feature of success will be the leaderís capacity to create meaning and drive deep engagement amongst employees; to grow organisations which are perceived by customers and employees alike to be making a significant and positive contribution to the world.

The new 21st Century Leaders programme explores these dilemmas and helps leaders find a way through what works for them personally, and which is consistent with the reality of the businesses that they lead. The programme has been developed with corporate psychologists YSC. It integrates YSCís strong track record of working globally with senior business leaders to address such challenges, with Sad Business Schoolís insight into latest business thinking and models. The programme will also draw upon the latest thinking of the James Martin 21st Century School at the University of Oxford.

The programme is unique in that it begins with an intensive one to one coaching session for participants with YSC to prepare participants for the programme and help them get the most out of the experience. Sad faculty and YSC will also conduct pre-programme interviews with the participantsí organisations to ensure a good understanding of the organisational context and expectations. There will be a follow up session 3 months after the programme.

The programme will be launched 15-18 October 2007

Programme Director, Tracey Camilleri explained the need for the programme: The fast paced contextual changes of the 21st Century will require a new type of leadership. Sustainable developments in leadership capability come from changes in behaviour, attitude and self awareness. We felt that participants would benefit from an in-depth one-to-one coaching session upfront to enable the participants to deepen their awareness of the key challenges they face as leaders given the shifts in thinking that the programme will demand.

Highlights of the programme include:

Trends that are radically reshaping the business context
