The hundreds of court hearings over the last week have shown over the weekend it has been seen that many of those involved in the riots have been University students and graduates from a range of different fields including social work, law, engineering, journalism, nursing, and dentistry.

WikiJob founder Ed Mellett commented that “In such a fiercly competitive graduate market, graduates simply cannot afford to be involved in any sort of criminal activity or anti-social behaviour.”

“With the growing expectations of employees, graduates cannot have any marks next to their name.

“The riots have highlighted the issue of poverty, especially amongst youth in our community. However, that is no excuse for the devastation that was caused to the community.

“The public, police and politicians have been lobbying the courts for the highest possible sentencing for those involved in the rioting, so there is little hope for the future careers of these graduates,” Mellett said.

Most of those involved in the riots are young people, however it is not yet known why many of them became involved.

Mellett said, “What is certain is that they have caused devastation to the community as well as devastation to their futures, and their moments of madness could have lasting affects on their careers.”
