Gordon Brown launched the first social enterprise recruitment agency in Scotland on Friday 29th September at the Crosshill Business Centre in Fife. The event, which targeted employers, was attended by over 100 guests eager to hear what the Chancellor had to say about the role of businesses in supporting the regeneration of communities through employment.

The Chancellor gave an up-beat speech, stating that,

ìWe should be proud Fife is leading the way by launching the first social enterprise recruitment company in Britain. Ten thousand new jobs need to be created in Fife in the next ten years and PACE will be play an important part in reaching this goalî.

Mr Brown stressed that, ìas a social enterprise PACE will be re-investing profits to make a difference, building a stronger community and meeting the needs of the community in new ways. There is no better way to spend a Friday afternoon than to celebrate the birth of a new social enterprise!î

A Babygro was presented to Gordon with the printed words ësay no to age discriminationí, photo attached.

PACE Recruitment is one of a new breed of businesses being run as Social Enterprises, meaning 100% of the profits made from its standard recruitment agency work will be re-invested to help those further from the jobs market back into work.

Kieron Elliot, better known as ëDuncaní from the BBCís River City spoke about his own experiences:

ìI started off working in a fish factory before training as a web designer and then developing my acting career. Lots of people donít know what they want to do and thatís where PACE can help. We all need advice and training throughout our lives to support us to find the right jobî.

All of PACEís consultants are qualified experts on recruitment best practice. Our aim is to support both clients and applicants find their perfect match.

Duncan Mitchell, Manager of PACE Recruitment said:

ìWhat better way to launch our business than to have the man that probably knows more about how jobs influence the Scottish Economy than anyone.î
He added

ìNow the launch party is over, PACE will be concentrating on growing and getting to know employers and finding the right candidates for their jobs and supporting candidates to find, keep and develop a career for their futures ñ thatís what PACE is all about!î

In addition to the official launch, a jobseekers launch was held on the morning of 29th September, with Liam McCann (Kingdom FM breakfast presenter) assisting with the ceremonies. Almost 100 jobseekers registered with the new company on the day.
