Global accountancy body works with HR industry to ensure accountants are ëfit for businessí

ACCA has looked to the HR industry to help it develop its new qualification

ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), has looked to the HR industry to help it develop its new qualification. The new ACCA Qualification will feature a mix of exams, and a radically revised practical experience requirement (PER), developed after consultation with some 30,000 stakeholders ñ including HR specialists.

Clare Minchington, ACCAís managing director ñ education, learning and development says: ìACCAís new practical experience requirement highlights ACCAís integrated approach to the qualification and how we are responding to employersí needs by ensuring that any capabilities developed through the exams process will have a clear application in the workplace. We took our lead from best practice in the HR industry, not least because we want our practical experience requirement to dovetail with the best performance management systems adopted by our employers. We have realised that this is how development needs are best identified and addressed.î

Minchington continues: ìOur consultation process revealed that employers require an increased focus on an individualís workplace performance, and also closer links between in-company performance, management processes and ACCAís PER. Under the new ACCA Qualification, the practical experience requirement sets clear expectations of what trainee accountants should be able to do in the workplace. It is goal driven so trainees are encouraged to set targets, plan development and mark progress along with their employer. All this will help ensure that ACCA accountants are fit for business.í

The new ACCA Qualification will also have a unique focus on professionalism, ethics and corporate governance.

Details of the new qualification can be found on ACCAís website.
