Employers in the food industry should be careful they do not fall foul of employment and immigration issues when hiring migrant workers.
Thatís the warning from East Midlands law firm Freeth Cartwright, which is hosting a seminar, entitled Employing Migrant Workers: An Essential Guide for the Food Industry, on Thursday, November 23.
The event will see an introduction and overview from Allan Taylor, Head of Lincolnshire and Rutland Area Team of Government Office East Midlands, a talk on employment law issues from Freeth Cartwright partner Joanne Kay, a presentation on the Gangmaster Licensing Authority, and a seminar from Paragon Law director Thalej Vasishta, who will be looking at who can be employed from outside the UK.
Freeth Cartwright partner Richard Bullock, who will be welcoming people to the seminar and leading the debate at the end of the event, said: ìOur employment team has received a number of queries from clients and the wider business community regarding issues surrounding migrant workers.
ìIt really is a sensitive area, both in terms of the actual engagement for employment and management or supervision of such workers. It is an issue that has been highlighted in the press and we felt it was time to share our expertise with employers.î
The seminar, being held at Freeth Cartwrightís Cumberland Court premises in Nottingham, is free, begins at 12 noon with a buffet lunch and closes at 3pm. For further information, e-mail Julie Scheller at julie.scheller@freethcartwright.co.uk, or call her on 0115 936 9369.
