A team of seven from gap personnel, led by managing director Mark Roberts, has completed the Three Peaks challenge over the weekend to raise more than £10,000 for charity. The money raised will go directly The Brook Hill Foundation to provide funds for the rehabilitation of children who have suffered severe head injuries.
Members of gap’s senior executive team decided to attempt the Three Peaks Challenge after being inspired by the story of Brook Hill, a local schoolboy who was seriously injured in a skiing accident earlier this year. Ten-year-old Brook is now making steady progress, however the charity was set up by his family to help with the physical, social and mental rehabilitation of other children affected by such injuries.
The walkers battled the elements whilst climbing the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in less than 24 hours. The team set off from Chester on Saturday morning and began the gruelling task from the base of Ben Nevis on Saturday afternoon.
After a tough ascent up Scotland’s highest mountain they were greeted with bleak conditions at the peak. Once completed the team were driven through the night to Scafell Pike by Life Changing Challenges, which supported gap in its bid. The team then tackled England’s highest mountain in darkness before continuing onwards to their final climb in Wales. The concluding mountain, Snowdon, was the hardest as tired legs took their toll, however being near to home the team put their heads down and battled through.
To their surprise they were greeted at the bottom by Brook and his family who had come over to say a massive ‘Thank you’ and congratulate the team on their amazing achievement.
gap’s South Wales regional director Rob Webb, who co-ordinated the challenge, said: “Everyone at gap has been touched by Brook’s story, and we wanted to do something to help him and others. It was a gruelling, yet enjoyable challenge, and we are delighted to have been able to raise so much money for such a worthwhile cause and to make a positive difference to the lives of affected children.”
Louis Hill, Brook’s father and trustee of The Brook Hill Foundation, added: “We are so grateful for all their efforts and the amazing amount of money that they have raised. With the huge amount of support we have received, Brook has made a fantastic recovery and this money will go directly towards helping other children and their families to recover from similar injuries so that they too can go on to once again live life to the full.”
