THE army of volunteers, known as the Games Makers, who created the spirit of goodwill and friendliness around the Olympics and Paralympics have been offered the opportunity of a new job, where they will be PAID, it was revealed today.

The organisers of the Idea Home Show and Grand Designs Live want to recruit as many of the Games Makers as possible and reward them for a new role as Show Makers, across their portfolio of events starting with next year’s Ideal Home Show Spring, which runs from the 15th March – 1st April 2013 at London’s Earls Court.

The Chief Executive of show organisers Media 10, Lee Newton, said: “I was personally overwhelmed by these amazing volunteers, their humour, their smiles, everything about them made the Games extra special and memorable.

“I really believe that they made a significant difference to everyone’s experience at the Olympics and Paralympics to such an extent, we have become a happier, more cheerful and positive nation. The impact has been incredible and we should not lose it.”

Up to 500 jobs across the companies’ annual events will be created by Media 10’s ‘Show Makers’ initiative and will offer thousands of volunteers the opportunity to transfer their valuable training and experience at the UK’s biggest sporting event into the world of work.  With a portfolio of shows, which includes Destination Star Trek London, Grand Designs Live Birmingham, the Ideal Home Show at Christmas, and the Ideal Home Show Scotland, and a collective audience of over 700,000 visitors per year, Media 10 require hundreds of staff and stewards including specially trained security staff to make the shows happen.

The Show Makers will be integral to keeping the show running as the onsite and front of house staff across a variety of areas taking on a variety of roles and being on hand at the events offering help and assistance to all of the show’s visitors, helping to make their show experience the best it can be.

The Show Makers will be provided with a distinctive uniform kit as well as their pay and be offered free tickets for themselves and their families to attend the shows.

Mr Newton added: “Britain hosts some of the best events in the world and this year’s Olympics captured the British spirit like never before. We are keen to continue the legacy and ensure that all of our events capture the same feeling and sense of pride, whilst uniting people from communities across the UK.

“I am convinced the friendly and welcoming manner of these people will dramatically enhance the experience of our visitors, just by being themselves.”
