In 2007 40% of financial PR candidates placed came from backgrounds other than PR as companies looked for broader skills to meet their recruitment needs, the ëShow you the Moneyí survey from PR recruitment specialists The Works reports. Fuelled by a demand for good people and sector specific experience, strong candidates were snapped up quickly and at higher prices than in previous years. Financial PR director salaries were up a sizeable 10% from 2006 from an average of 98,500 to 108,500 demonstrating how candidates continued to drive the market in 2007.

Sarah Leembruggen, managing partner at The Works said: ìThroughout 2007 there has been a significant rise in the number of people entering financial PR from alternative careers, in fact weíve seen a significant 10% increase from 2006 figures. Specialist knowledge and contacts has led to bankers, analysts, accountants, lawyers as well as journalists making the switch as the draw of shorter hours, seeing the bigger picture and increased salaries had an impact.

ìCandidates know their worth and in 2007 salaries rose as consultancies were forced to meet their demands or risk missing out on talented people.î
