Firms cant afford to ignore age discrimination changes

BPP launches course for legal, finance and HR professionals to understand the risks

With the greatest shake-up of discrimination law for a decade just two months away (1st October), BPP Professional Development is alerting employers they cannot afford to ignore the implications of new age-related legislation. The leading training company this month* launches a series of CPD courses covering the practical implications of these wide-ranging changes to employment law, to help lawyers, HR professionals and accountants identify significant aspects for the companies they represent.

Topics addressed by the ëAge Discrimination: The New Lawí course include:

Who is protected?
Getting retirement right
New automatic unfair dismissal measures
Making applications to stay on in employment
Compensation principles
The myths about the new law
The New TUPE Rules 2006
Statutory procedures update
Mitigation in the tribunal - the new test

Dominic Regan, leading employment law expert and BPP course presenter said, ìThe long-trailed changes to age discrimination law will have broad-ranging implications for firms and their workforces from day one. Ignorance will be no excuse in the face of a claim, so employers and particularly their lawyers need to get to grips early with the real risks and not be distracted by some of the red herrings they may come across.î

To highlight areas of uncertainty and confusion surrounding the new legislation, BPP has posted a short test on its website at www.bppprofessionaldevelopment.com.

BPPís courses will take place in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds from the end of August*. BPP Professional Development members can subscribe for the reduced cost of 360 VAT, and the course counts as six hours of CPD training.

Regan concluded, ìThis course will be of benefit to all employment law practitioners, HR and finance decision-makers, providing a concise but exact guide to this major new discrimination claim.î

Limited places are still available on these courses; for full details visit www.bppprofessionaldevelopment.com or contact BPPís Professional Development Division on 0845 226 2422.
