With the inspiration of a younger family member, Barry Dyer from Henley on Thames, Organisational Development Director of Group HR at BUPA in London, will run 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields along with the help and encouragement from his 17-year-old son Myles.
This will be Barry and Myles’ first half marathon and they will be running in aid of the charity Save the Children, which raises money for Children living in Poverty.
I focus and tell myself that I will feel good once I have finished the challenge, says Myles. Completing the run will also contribute towards my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and a worthy charity.
Barry along with his son aims to push his fitness level further and to raise money for charity. However he also has an ulterior motive at hand.
If I don’t train, think how bad it will be if I don’t beat a colleague’s time, says Barry. When I was a teenager I ran cross-country for my school and a local youth club, so I look forward to the challenge of the BUPA Great North Run.
Barry and Myles along with approximately 47 000 other runner will conquer the challenge of the BUPA Great North Run on September 26.
Karen conquers BUPA Great North Run
As a novice runner BUPA Head of Group Pensions, Karen Beech from Salford Keys will complete her first BUPA Great North Run on September 26. However, Karen won’t be alone. Her son will be joining Karen on his 19th birthday.
Karen is not only running for her personal gain but also for Cancer Research The charity is pushing Karen to complete the run however she is also excited about the amazing atmosphere the BUPA Great North Run attracts every year.
I had planned to do the Great North Run last year, then the training didn’t go to plan, so I backed out, says Karen. I really regretted that when watching the television coverage, the atmosphere appeared superb and I don’t want to miss out on that this year!
Chris Sharpens up for BUPA Great North Run
Approximately 47 000 other people will complete the BUPA Great North Run this year across a stretch of 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields.
With the St Albans half-marathon and the Feetbeat 10k runs already to his credit, Chris Sharpe Head of Group HR from London will challenge the BUPA Great North Run for the first time on September 26.
Chris has decided to raise money for Riders for Health which is a charity that supports health provision in remote parts of Africa through the use of motorcycles. RFH is the charity of choice for motorcycle sport with all the leading riders backing the initiative.
Chris along with approximately 47 000 others will pound the streets from Newcastle to South Shields over a 13.1mile stretch. However he is well prepared, as he has recently completed the Welwyn Garden City 10 miles run.
Chris has previously raised over 400 for other selected charities and aims to raise more needed money this year saying it would be rude not to compete in the BUPA Great North Run.
It’s the biggest road race in the UK and BUPA is the sponsor, says Christopher. It would be rude not to compete!
