Recruitersí outlook for the executive employment market improved in the first quarter of 2006, as the unemployment rate fell to its lowest level in more than four years.

The High-Tech and Defense/Aerospace industries have emerged as the leaders in executive job growth. This marks the first time the High-Tech industry has topped this list since January 2001. Geographically, the South/Southeast was identified as the top region for executive hiring.

The executive search industry is anticipating a 27% increase in the number of job assignments received from corporate clients during the second and third quarters of 2006. To prepare to this explosive growth, recruiting firms are increasing their own staffs. More than half of all search firms (58%) are planning to hire additional professional staff in the second quarter ñ a near record level of anticipated search firm hiring.

Amid strong corporate profits and a double-digit increase in white-collar job growth, executive confidence in the employment market ended the first quarter at a twelve-month high. Forty-one percent (41%) of executives confident or very confident the market will improve during the next two quarters.
