Employee Health Insurance Provider Equipsme Raises over £800,000 in Crowdfunding

Equipsme, an insuretch startup, has raised £800,000 through Crowdcube after beating its initial target of £500,000.

Founded by Matthew Reed, the company offers business health insurance plans for employees, allowing them to access a number of perks including physio sessions, 24/7 virtual GPs and online health checks from £7.99 per person, per month.

Policies are backed by AXA PPP and the company announced an additional partnership with health insurance provider Aon earlier this month. Last month, Equipsme was named as the official health insurance partner for Starling Bank

Equipsme has emerged in the fast-growing space of employee benefits, where organisations and managers are encouraged to offer free benefits, perks and discounts to their staff to boost motivation and employee retention.

The Equipsme proposition is designed as an affordable health insurance solution - standard cover of £7 per employee - that is considered more accessible to SMEs.

Customers can upgrade to different packages to include dental, optical, diagnostic treatment and more. Stress support, provided by professional counsellors, can be added for £1.50 per employee per month. The packages offers the same prices for people aged 16-69, whether they are new or existing customers.

Founder Matthew Reed explained: “Traditionally private medical insurance has been for big executives in big businesses, or via a cash plan scheme which requires staff to shell out and be reimbursed. At Equipsme we think healthcare plans can work for any size of business and any employee, without the upfront payments, the jargon, or the complications. It’s our aim to make it both practical and affordable, which is why our basic plans start at just £7 per person per month.”

He continued: "Businesses are re-prioritising which employee benefits they offer and why, with a focus on impact and sustainability. We are very pleased that Aon sees the opportunity to help more businesses around the country to deliver a hugely valued benefit to all their team.

"Equipsme's offer is flexible with practical health support from day one which provides access to professional advice around the clock. We believe that it is going to prove to be a hugely attractive proposition to businesses around the country at a time when remote access to health and wellbeing support is more important than ever with the impacts of Covid-19."

Employees can upgrade their level of cover and add family members by paying separately via their own direct debit. These self-funded costs would not attract any P11d and comes with less administrative burden on payroll teams.
