Donít waste time waiting for a bus! - 04/2001

Jobs on the hop with Jobchannel

In London alone, there are an estimated 4 million bus users, each waiting on average 10 minutes for a bus - a combined 40 million minutes a day. Now, travellers can make better use of this time. Now commuters can search for that perfect job while waiting for a bus or a train via free-standing, online i-plus points.

Provided by The Job Channel, www.jobchannel.tv, the UKs leading online jobs database for digital television and the Internet, users can freely access around 60,000 current positions ranging from administration and PA vacancies to retail and catering jobs while standing at a bus stop or train station.

Angus Drever, CEO of the Job Channel, said:
The i-plus free-standing points provide a quick and immediate way for users to scan the latest job opportunities. In a recent 2 week pilot on just 16 points, over 21,000 search sessions were recorded by users looking for the perfect job, with catering and tourism vacancies being the most popular. This indicates that when i-plus reaches its target of 1,000 points, there will be several million search sessions annually.

Located in city high streets, at bus stops, train stations and shopping centres, i-plus points provide 24 hour free online access on local information and events, email services, sightseeing, transport and jobs.
With approximately 50 i-plus points currently located across the country, from London and Bristol, to Manchester and Liverpool, a further 1000 i-plus points are to be installed within the next eighteen months across the UK.

Marc Meyohas, managing director of Cityspace, added: The i-plus network enables companies such as The Job Channel to gain greater exposure with the target audience, driving traffic to its site and tempting trial of its services.

The Job Channel is the only jobs database to be found on all digital television platforms- BSkyB, ntl, Telewest, Ondigital and Bush Internet TVs via the Freeserve Portal. It is also accessible via web based PCs www.jobchannel.tv; WAP - wap.jobchannel.tv and i-plus points. It reaches an estimated 30 million people.
