As many as a third of businesses could be blaming the recession for increased staff turnover when in reality it is their lack of communication and poor company culture that is pushing their employees towards the door, claims a leading performance culture consultancy Q4 Solutions.
Q4 Solutions claims that many businesses are ‘burying their heads in the sand’ as staff continue to leave in their droves and are failing to take steps to improve culture and communications with their employees.
Having worked with a number of the world’s leading brands for over a decade, Q4 Solutions predicts that the number of businesses facing this situation could be in the region of 20-30%.
Nigel Watson, MD of Q4 Solutions says, “With proliferation of internet job agency sites such as Monster.com, etc. employees are now more aware than ever of what other opportunities exist, and with what benefits and are therefore more expectant from their employer than ever before. Of course, this doesn’t mean that they would get the job posted if they were to apply as each job is fiercely contested these days, but it’s not always a chance existing employers can take.”
Watson’s views come at the same times as a recent survey by GfK NOP, which reveals that out of 4000 people surveyed that 13% of workers intend on leaving their workplace and a further 11% hoped to do so within the next 12 months.
This is a matter of great concern for those hoping to retain good staff in the coming months says Watson. “There’s a train of thought that once someone as started looking externally, in effect put themselves on the ‘subs bench’ then it’s only a matter of time before they leave,” he adds.
