Does your workplace sometimes feel like a battleground?

The UK is firmly in the grip of a long-hours culture, and competition in most markets means we have to work harder just to stand still

The UK is firmly in the grip of a long-hours culture, and competition in most markets means we have to work harder just to stand still. Technology, once thought of as a great enabler, now means we are available 24/7. These factors mean that the workplace setting has become a fertile breeding ground for conflicts; recognising and addressing the factors that give rise to the potential for conflict can have a positive impact on both people and productivity.

Before you put on your combat gear, you may be pleased to hear that the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) is helping professionals to resolve their workplace conflict by holding low-cost workshops that look at how conflict starts, how to spot it coming and how to handle it before it gets out of hand.

Through a highly involving set of exercises you will get the chance to find out more about your own individual work personality and gain an insight into how you can strengthen your personal conflict handling abilities. In discussion with other delegates, youíll take on real-life conflict scenarios and work through them to find solutions that are really effective. These are practical skills you can take away with you to help you reduce conflict and improve the ëemotional environmentí of your workplace. If this doesnít work, we suggest you hold a corporate paintball function to vent your frustration!

The ILM Resolving Conflict in the Workplace event runs from 09.30am - 16.00pm and will be held on 10 June 2005, 09.30am - 16.15pm in London EC1. Attendance costs 195 for ILM members and centres, 175 for studying members, and 225 for non-members plus VAT.
