Do Men And Women Negotiate Differently? New Global Research Suggests The Answer

For over 20 years, The Gap Partnership has supported its clients in complex negotiations and is often asked what role gender plays.

The Gap Partnership believes that the success of a negotiation depends on a negotiator's ability to understand the other party and that in order to negotiate successfully, you must do so with them.

But if gender influences the behaviour of others, how can we better understand it? Do we experience conscious or unconscious prejudice towards each other, especially with regard to gender?

For over 20 years, The Gap Partnership has supported its clients in complex negotiations and is often asked what role gender plays.

"Many of our clients say they believe there is a difference in the way the sexes negotiate. There is no scientific study to conclude that this is true, but experts - men and women from around the world - have shared their experiences" states Ann Marie Costelloe from The Gap Partnership.

In December 2019, they conducted a global research study on gender and negotiation. The results show that gender differences can help professionals adjust their own behaviour and anticipate their colleagues to achieve better agreements.

They have just run a thought-provoking webinar in which they shared the results of their global gender research, including data highlighting the differences between men and woman and how these impact negotiations. Negotiation experts Esther Shearwood and Diana Jusepeitis moderated the session and offered the participants practical tips and tricks for successful negotiations that can be implemented immediately.
