Simon Stevens, Chief Executive of Enable Enterprises, which provides consultancy, training and information services to commercial and voluntary organisations, has won the Community Enterprising Young Brit 2004 Award.

He was presented with the award from Gordon Brown after beating stiff competition from 1,000 entries and 5 other finalists at the award ceremony in London on Monday.

Simon, the only disabled person in the competition final, said:

ìIím really proud of winning this award as it recognises how hard Iíve worked to start my own business and make it a real success. Itís an exciting time because along with the DDA, businesses are starting to realise that including disabled people is not about ëdoing the right thingí but about benefiting business and increasing profit!î

Tony Manwaring, Chief Executive of Scope said:
ìSimon embodies a key message of the TTGE campaign - that disabled people can, must and should achieve equality. This award is a wonderful way of recognising his enterprise and entrepreneurship in overcoming disabling barriers. We hope it inspires many other talented disabled people like Simon to do the sameíî
