ìWe welcome any effort that brings accessibility and usability of websites to the attention of the wider public.
RNID has been aware of the problems of our current site and has been working on redeveloping the site, involving consulting with a range of people with disabilities at every stage of design and implementation. The new site will be launched shortly, and we are confident that this will demonstrate how accessible design can be visually attractive as well as providing accessible content for all.
Automated tests are a good starting point, but do not cover all the checkpoints recommended in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. RNID therefore has tested heavily with real people to make sure the site is easy to use and navigate. We have also tried to develop simply laid out content in plain English so that the site is accessible to people whose first language is not English, such as many users of British Sign Language.
