Developments in computers and the Internet have meant that computer-based testing plays an important role in current testing and assessment practices.
The issues surrounding this topic are addressed in a new book: Computer-Based Testing and the Internet - Issues and Advances. The book is a comprehensive guide to Internet- and computer-based testing for professionals, academics and practitioners working in the fields of education, credentialing, personnel testing and organisational assessment.
Professor Dave Bartram, Research Director for SHL Group plc has co-edited and contributed to the book and his chapters focus on the challenges and opportunities of occupational assessment and the use of technology in testing. He is also heading the International Test Commission’s projects to develop international guidelines for standards for computer-based testing and the Internet.
Professor Bartram’s chapters detail what the Internet can offer the field of psychometric assessment, the strengths of online testing, and the limitations that online technology imposes on the design of psychometric tests. Bartram goes on to explore the impact of technology on manufacture, delivery and use of tests.
Computer-Based Testing and the Internet - Issues and Advances takes an in-depth look at four main themes:
* Advances in computer-based testing
* Operational issues
* New and improved uses for test in employment and
