“It’s a heart-wrenching day for A-Level students all across the country. Finally getting their long-awaited results is a nail-biting experience for friends, family and teachers, as well as students themselves. No matter the outcome, whether you get the grades you wanted or not, it’s important that everyone retains an ounce of perspective throughout the whole charade.
Certainly, university can be a fantastic start to a career, but it can also be a disappointment, waste of time and money and completely the wrong decision for a lot of students. Many people put far too much emphasis on the cap and gown, when school-leavers should be aware of all the options available to them so they can choose the one which provides the best fit for what they want to do. For those who don’t make their grades or aren’t sure if university is the right choice, there are numerous routes that can be taken after A-Levels instead, such as vocational training and other work-based learning schemes like apprenticeships.
“We’ve released the Results Day Survival Guide in a bid to make all students aware of the options available to them. But our main advice would be not to stress too much; No matter what grades you get today or what your parents or teachers think, it’s your life, your future and your decision. You should never feel penned in to an avenue which just doesn’t feel right for you.”
