The Human Capital Institute (HCI), a professional association and educator in talent management strategies, announced today that Clyde Prestowitz, Founder and President of the Economic Strategy Institute and best-selling author, will open HCI’s second annual National Human Capital Summit, to be held in Phoenix March 19-21.
Prestowitz will present Three Billion New Capitalists, a session based on his recent book of the same name. In his book and at this session, Prestowitz explores the economic rise of Asia and the upcoming rebalancing of the world economic order, and its possible impact on the United States.
New capitalists have the potential to end Western economic domination, according to Prestowitz. America’s lead role in invention and technological innovation has lessened, while at the same time the Internet now allows jobs to be performed anywhere. Indeed, Prestowitz foresees the possibility of an economic 9/11, and offers solutions in order to minimize economic hardship.
Clyde Prestowitz is one of the world’s shrewdest economic trend spotters. His long history of predicting important trends long before they become apparent to others makes this session a must-attend Summit event, said Allan Schweyer, HCI’s President and Executive Director.
In his role as Founder and President of the Economic Strategy Institute, Clyde Prestowitz has propelled ESI to the forefront of the public policy process, influencing and often defining the terms of the debate in the areas of international trade policy, economic competitiveness, and the effects of globalization. Prestowitz has played key roles in achieving Congressional passage of NAFTA and in shaping the final content of the Uruguay Round, as well as providing the intellectual basis for current U.S. trade policies toward Japan, China, and Korea.
Prior to founding ESI, Clyde Prestowitz served as Counselor to the Secretary of Commerce in the Reagan Administration. In that role, he led many U.S. trade and investment negotiations with Japan, China, Latin America, and Europe. Before joining the Commerce Department, he was a senior businessman in the United States, Europe, Japan, and throughout Asia and Latin America. Prestowitz has served as Vice Chairman of the President’s Committee on Trade and Investment in the Pacific. He currently sits on the Intel Policy Advisory Board and the U.S. Export-Import Bank Advisory Board.
Clyde Prestowitz is the author of several books, including the best-selling book on U.S.-Japan relations, Trading Places. He holds a B.A. with honors from Swarthmore College; an M.A. in East-West Policies and Economics from the East-West Center of the University of Hawaii; and an M.B.A. from the Wharton Graduate School of Business. He also studied at Keio University in Tokyo. Clyde Prestowitz is fluent in Japanese, Dutch, German, and French.
