Managing dismissals, compromise agreements, COT3s and how to manage employment tribunal claims will be the focus of the Spring Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development’s (CIPD) Law on Tour, a series of highly informative, practical workshops examining the important changes brought about in forthcoming legislation and essential case law.

The Tour offers 12 separate workshops between the 10 and 27 May. It is run by leading employment law experts; Carolyn Carrington, John Fenton and Marco Marenda, who will offer guidance on the latest changes in employment law, plus a particular focus on:

  • Managing dismissals

  • Compromise agreements and COT3s

  • Managing employment tribunal claims

An update on new and forthcoming law includes:

  • The Bribery Act 2010

  • Additional paternity leave

  • The abolition of Default Retirement Age

Mike Emmott, Employee Relations Adviser at CIPD says: “Our research into conflict management in March found that two out of three employers say they have no effective protection against employees making wholly unjustifiable claims to employment tribunals. More than half say they have endured a complaint against their organisation on malicious grounds. With this in mind it is even more vital for employers to seek ways of resolving workplace issues before they get to an employment tribunal.

“We are seeing more and more employers using compromise agreements to avoid lengthy and expensive tribunal claims and the use of mediation is also on the up. This year’s Law on Tour workshops will provide comprehensive materials and practical guidance and examples of how to manage the process of workplace disputes, whether through compromise agreements and COT3 settlements or actually managing a claim through to an employment tribunal.”

Format

Leading employment law experts facilitate the workshops, which include group discussions, case studies and clear presentations. Supporting documentation is also provided to ensure that complex legal issues around employment are explored and communicated effectively.
