The search is on for innovative solutions and outstanding achievement in the field of people management and development, as the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and People Management Magazine invite organisations to enter the 2007 People Management Award.
Geoff Armstrong, CIPD Director General says: ìThe need for good people management and development has never been more important. Continuous learning, new skills and active engagement of everyone in the enterprise are key to success.
ìThe People Management award celebrates the creative initiatives employers are taking to improve performance and achieve business objectives. This year, two new categories have been introduced ñ Talent management for business benefit and Turning HR policies into practice: the vital role of line managers.
ìHigh quality entrants for the People Management award will demonstrate how good people management practices can produce both a productive and profitable organisation and a positive working environment for employees.î
This year there are four award categories listed below:
Business impact through learning and development has been introduced to reflect the crucial role learning and development plays in addressing skills shortages, retaining and developing employees, supporting organisational change and helping employers achieve business objectives.
Improving business performance through engaging staff recognises the need for organisations to invest the resources required to engage their workforce. CIPDís research investigating employee attitudes shows that engaged employees perform better, are more likely to recommend their organisation to others and are less likely to quit.
Talent management for business benefit has been introduced to recognise the impact it can have on productivity. The CIPDís 2006 Learning, Training and Development Survey finds 94% of organisations believe that well designed talent management activities have a positive impact their bottom line.
Turning HR policies into practice: the vital role of line managers reflects the crucial role line managers play at the delivery end of people management. The way in which they interpret and use the policies and practices designed by HR professionals has become an important determinant of the success or failure of those practices.
The prestigious annual award gives recognition to businesses and organisations that put people management high on the agenda, and that recognise the value of their peoples and the contribution they make. The winners will be announced at a gala awards ceremony at the CIPDís Annual Conference and Exhibition, in Harrogate on 19 September 2007.
