He was elected to the voluntary position, and takes over from Robin Jordan, who has chaired the Board, which oversees the CIPDís operations, since 2003. Dean has been a member of the Board since 2005.

He brings with him experience built up during an impressive career in HR within the NHS. He has been a senior civil servant in the Department of Health and has also held positions including director of human resources and communications at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust and HR director at East Midlands Ambulance Service. He started his HR career in local government.

Dean Royles, Chair of the CIPD Board, says:

ìI am delighted to be appointed Chair of the CIPD Executive Board at an exciting time for the Institute and the profession. With the recent announcement of of the ëHR profession mapí, a radical revamp of existing professional standards, we are leading in building the current and future capability of the HR profession.

ìThe CIPD is already held in the highest regard within the HR profession, and it is an honour to have the opportunity to play an even bigger part in my own professional institute. Iíd like to continue the work being done to cement the CIPDís role as an essential starting point for anyone entering the profession, but also in ensuring it is there to support members at all levels throughout their HR careers. The CIPD HR Professional Map is just one of the many exciting initiatives at the CIPD that I am looking forward to supporting and promoting in my time as Chair of the Board.î

Jackie Orme, CIPD Chief Executive, welcoming Dean to the role, adds:

ìI am looking forward to working with Dean to deliver our ambitious objectives for the CIPD. I will value his advice and support, and particularly the experience he brings with his long career in public sector HR. The CIPD is fortunate to have so many dedicated and experienced professionals who are willing to give up so much of their time on a voluntary basis to support their professional Institute. As I welcome Dean to his new role, Iíd like to take the opportunity once again to thank all the volunteers who contribute so much to the CIPD year in, year out.î
